As promised in my recent Newsletter, here, along with several other new listing, is an excellent shoe for almost any weather, on or off road, as practical for your summer outings in town or country as for Winter use. Every prudent gentleman’s wardrobe should have at least one so robust a shoe to fall back on in heavy weather or, indeed, for any excursion to the country, whatever the weather. My goal is to present you shoes that fit this description but which have no resemblance to rough shoes or boots, rather, which can also be worn to the office or out in the evening without giving the impression -apologies to my lumberjack clients- that you are have just returned from felling trees in Yosemite or the Black Forest.

This particular pair appears identical to those made for the War Office under contract but was sold commercially by Regent at the time. Few Veldtschoen constructed shoes are made today and certainly nothing as sturdy as the present pair with it channeled triple sole and steel-cleated heel. Regent, of course, is a traditional, 100 plus year old Northampton firm, now part of the Sanders Group and, with Sanders, specialists in boot making for the Equestrians, Police, and Military forces worldwide.

Goodyear welted, fully leather-lined and made from Full-Grain Zug Leather, this is a handsome classic, suitable for a variety of occasions.

Zug leather, apart from its highly waterproof characteristics is, because of it embossed, raised grain, far less susceptible to bruising or nicking than smooth leathers. This shoe is, of course, in near new condition but I am showing other examples in the website, used and as much as 40 years old that show not a single sign of scratching or other damage! It is generally agreed that the Zug grain leathers of the mid century, mostly purveyed by the tanners, Bridge Of Weir and Martins, are of superior quality and longer durable than anything available today.

VELDTSCHOEN CONSTRUCTION: In terms of construction, the present shoe is one of the most complex, robust and durable of all shoes. The Veldtschoen construction, while similar to the Norwegian construction in that both have the uppers turned out and sewn to the out-sole, has the addition of a full welt between the uppers and the out-sole, all of this intended to repel water. The Norwegian lacks a welt and is sewn directly to the outsole. Veldtschoen constructed shoes are usually further distinguished, as in this case, by a bellows tongue, another waterproofing measure. The construction of this shoe allows for the easy replacement of the sole but replacement is academic; you cannot wear out this sole. This shoe will serve you faithfully like few others and for decades to come. My old clients know what I mean when I say, “My highest personal recommendation on this shoe.”

The replaceable rubber “Topy” sole protectors showing wear but not the soles themselves, thus, structurally like new. Heels still showing the original crosshatching, thus only slightly worn. Overall excellent.
