True Veldtschoen Construction
Euro 480This exceptionally sturdy boot is a stylistic throw-back to the Navvy Boot worn by Civil Engineers, Canal and Railroad workers at the turn of the century and before and by officers in the Great War and throughout the century. This handsome boot is the particularly well made and boasts the today exceedingly rare Veldtschoen construction. The high-top construction give a sense of stability, standing or walking, that few other shoes or boots provide. The Top-Grain hides are both water-repellent and scuff resistant, a perfect match for the water-repellent Veldtschoen construction. And the 3/4-height gusset under the lacing will keep you dry in almost every environment, while the newly fitted rubber soles will take you comfortably over hill and dale, not to mention pavement and job-site. Go to John Lobb’s website “Catalogue” page to see similar examples of this traditional style. This is ideal footwear for the outdoors in any season and every gentleman should have at least one rugged boot to depend upon in rough weather or terrain. However long it waits in your dressing room before you are called away to Timbuktu or Kilimanjaro, the day will come when it will be indispensable. Prepare now!
VELDTSCHOEN CONSTRUCTION: In terms of construction, the present shoe is one of the most complex, robust and durable of all shoes and an improvement on the Goodyear welt, while allowing the same easy repair. The Veldtschoen construction, while similar to the true Norwegian or Goiser construction in that all have the uppers turned out and sewn to the out-sole, has, in most cases, the addition of a full welt between the uppers and the out-sole, all of this intended to repel water. The Norwegian lacks a welt and is sewn directly to the outsole. Veldtschoen constructed shoes are often further distinguished by a bellows tongue, another waterproofing measure. The construction of this shoe allows for the easy replacement of the sole but replacement is academic; you cannot wear out this sole. As useful in cold and wet as it is for your summer excursions in the countryside, this shoe will serve you faithfully like few others. My old clients know what I mean when I say, “My highest personal recommendation on this shoe.”
