*Vintage BALLY (Switzerland) Black/Oxblood SADDLE OXFORD: 42D
The Saddle Oxford
Obviously made for the American market, as this model was almost unknown in Europe until recently, when it has gained popularity in both Europe and America; one should say “regained popularity”. Bally was still producing its shoes in Switzerland at the time -most of it product today comes from Italy- and was a well know and well thought of brand in America, during the mid-20th century.
The Saddle Oxford is still infrequently seen today and yet it is a great classic, a purely American university style from the 1920’s. Like all Saddle Oxfords, it (literally) walks the line between a dressy shoe (because of the plain toe) and a sporting shoe (because of the University and Golf traditions behind this model). This is a marvelous classic model, the two-tone, black over oxblood, and it appears to be in the old tradition of workmanship, a handsome and extremely durable shoe. The rich oxblood colour is easily mistaken for shell cordovan as is the black saddle. Goodyear welted, of course.
