    Little need be said about this good shoemaker, neither the family run shop in London nor its branch opened in Paris at the beginning of the last century and acquired by Hermès in 1976. John Lobb is of course, the premiere workshop for traditional English Shoes and stands noticeably above even the other superior shoemakers such as Church´s or Crockett & Jones, Alden, Weston etc., and along with Edward Green and (I believe) the old Peal & Co., is in the top category of shoemakers in the world.     This Boar hide “Cordoba”, their (true) Chisel-Toe, 2-Eyelet, Ghillie, is from John Lobb’s Limited Series.  Suffice it to say, the material is gorgeous Tan/Light Brown and promises to develop a lovely patina over time.  The chisel toe and ghillie closure set off the sleek, stream-lined front with distinction.

    This is exceptional both in the model and the material; it has not been available for more than a decade. The last one to have appeared on the after-market was, to my knowledge, in 2014. (However not in this difficult to obtain UK half size.)  The few truly good examples of this highly distinctive model that have appeared when the model was still current, sold to collectors for prices approaching the original store price.

    Shoe Condition:

    Original soles and heels showing no appreciable wear, thus near new, neuwertig! Tops too are near new, showing trivial creasing. Sold without trees.

    Es ist müßig das hohe Ansehen des Hauses John Lobb zu begründen; sein guter Ruf besteht seit Generationen, gleichermaßen für das Familienunternehmen in London, wie für die Pariser Niederlassung, die zu Beginn des vorigen Jahrhunderts in Paris eröffnet und 1976 von Hermès übernommen wurde.
    Lobb’s Schuhe werden von manchen als Non-Plus-Ultra in Sachen Luxus angesehen – was vielleicht etwas übertrieben ist – ganz gewiss aber verdienen sie Ihre Reputation was Qualität, Comfort, Eleganz und dezenten, guten Geschmack betrifft (wenn Lobb sich, wie in diesem Fall, nicht zu Exkursionen in scheusslichem, modernem Design hinreissen lässt). Die Passform und Verarbeitung dieses Paares ist exzellent.
    Dazu eine historische Anmerkung: bald befinden Sie sich in bester Gesellschaft mit Winston Churchill, Somerset Maugham, Charles de Gaulle, Alfred Hitchcock, J. Paul Getty, Gregory Peck – nicht zu sprechen von heutiger Kundschaft, wie etwa dem Prince of Wales oder Hugh Grant.Auch befinden Sie sich in charmanter Nähe solcher anspruchsvoller Damen wie Jacqueline Kennedy and Katharine Hepburn – beide treue Kundinnen von Lobb.
