+THE FLORSHEIM SHOE, Fiddle Vamp Wholecut, Circa 1980: US 12D (46D)

    6-Eyelet “Fiddle Vamp” Wholecut Oxford

This elegant single-sole Florsheim Oxford “Wholecut” stands in contrast to Florsheim’s much heavier Budapesters (Derbys). The overall appearance is more delicate and rather sleeker. The term “wholecut” refers to a shoe who’s uppers are made with only one piece of leather with only one seam at the rear. The description of this shoe as a “wholecut” may be somewhat ambitious as the vamp is a separate piece of leather but the skill in forming a single piece of leather around the last is no less required here.

In any case, this is a beautiful traditional model, very useful and a basic in the wardrobe. Both a practical and a representative shoe for the gentleman and nicely finished. Goodyear welted.
