*SIDE-BUCKLE Steel Gray, Monk Strap for Banana Republic: 41.5D
Cap-Toe Side Buckle Brogued Monk Strap
The rearward placed buckle affords this handsome shoe a sleeker and more elegant silhouette than most monks and the remarkable STEEL-GRAY CALFSKIN is sure to be unique in your wardrobe. This model is similar to Edward Green’s “Oundle”, replacing their earlier “Stowe” model, and offered in the last few years (actual price already about $1400 in 2008 and 14-16 weeks for delivery). It also resembles John Lobb’s wholecut Jermyn II of yesteryear, no longer available. I sold a similar pair under the listing Church’s Joseph Cheaney Monk Strap:42E, but neither Church’s or Cheaney show this model today. Thus, I think it is fair to say that this extraordinary Monk Strap is something of a rarity although a recent model. It is certainly an interesting and eye-catching (but always “correct”) design. With its gun-metal buckle, suede lining and discreetly decorated medallion cap-toe, just the right amount of detail to enrich the appearance without distracting from the sleek design, this monk will fast become a favourite in your collection.
