Most likely produced in the 1960s for the American market, this is a startlingly robust shoe, with 360 degree storm welt, horse shoe nailed heel with cleat, and a grade of shell cordovan that can only have come from Horween, the most significant cordovan supplier then as now -but the Horween of old, when hides luxuriated in the bath for up to a year.  Moreover, this particular Cordovan Full Brogue is a shoe of special interest both because of being English-made and for daring to compete for the American market at the height of the American shoe industry in the 1960s, and with the very material that was and is identified with America, shell cordovan! Frightfully bold  on the part of the maker/importer, Coes of Ipswitch.  Finally, provenance aside, this is a superb shoe, nothing less. Old world material, old world workmanship, not a copy but an original.
