This is Johnston & Murphy’s much-loved and much sought-after signature “Aristocraft” Shell Cordovan Tassel Penny loafer, a loafer like few other, with hand-sewn apron.

Until its decline and move overseas, Johnston & Murphy was Horween’s second largest customer for shell cordovan (after Florsheim) and the quality of the hides used in making this shoe can be said to be, simply, the best. This shoe is marked “Aristocraft”, Johnston & Murphy’s top boutique line, so may be dated to as late at the 1970’s or early 1980s, but the model was already in evidence in the 1950’s. A classic, an antique, for the Shell Cordovan lover a historic collectors item, an authentic representative of the American university style of the mid-century, and, in any case, its rich history aside, a splendid shoe for your relaxed wardrobe, one of the handsomest cordovans you will ever own and one of the most charming.

Dies ist Johnston & Murphy’s äusserst beliebter und seltene “Aristocraft” Shell Cordovan Tassel Loafer, circa 1980. Johnston & Murphy war für den Grossteil des 20. Jahrhunderts Horween’s Stammkunde. Dieser Schuh trägt die Bezeichnung “Aristocraft” und kann daher um die Spät-70-er oder 80-er datiert werden, doch war dieses Modell bereits in den 50-ern existent. Ein Klassiker, eine Antiquität, für alle Shell Cordovan-Liebhaber ein absolutes Sammlerstück, seltener als jeder andere Cordovan Loafers; kurz, DER Repräsentant in der Welt der “American university style”.
