Diese Paar wurde von dem grossen amerikanische Schuhmacher Hanover hergestellt. Die Leisten des Schuhes sind kompromisslos und absolut und sofort an Ihrem hohen Massanfertigungs-Standard erkennbar. Und nicht jeder hat einen Saddle Oxford hergestellt; ein rein amerikanischer Universitäs-Stil aus den 1920ern. Wie alle Cordovan Saddle Oxfords beschreitet er (buchstäblich) die schmale Linie zwischen einem eleganten Schuh (vor allem wegen des “plain toe”) und einem sportlichen Schuh (wegen seiner legendären Universitäts-und Golfsporttradition). Nur wenige Cordovans können mit Farbkraft und Qualität des Horween Cordovan-Leders, das Hanover verwendet, konkurrieren. Goodyear welted-rahmengenäht.

Dieser spezielle Saddle Oxford ist ein Schuh von besonderem Interesse, sowohl auf Grund der rahmengenähte Sohle scheint mit einem Leisten gemacht zu sein, der für den amerikanischen Fuss passender und robuster ist. Letztendlich eine gute “Heirat” zwischen Form und Qualität.

Out of the over 200 American Shoemakers clustered around New England at the start of the 20 Century, only a handful remain, among them Bostonian, Cole-Haan, J &M and, here in Europe, the better know Alden and Allen-Edmonds. The great Florsheim, Hanover, Cordwainer, Nunn-Bush and Bostonian exist today as marketing firms, the bulk of their wares being produced off-shore. Lamentable.

This particular Saddle Oxford is a shoe of special interest both because the model itself is seldom seen in modern times, more seldom still in Shell Cordovan. Moreover it is from Hanover’s flagship, signature, L. B. Sheppard line.

The the Saddle Oxford is a great classic, a once ubiquitous American university style from the 1920’s. Like all Cordovan Oxfords, it (literally) walks the line between a dressy shoe (because of the plain toe) and a sporting shoe (because of the University and Golf traditions behind this model), and very few Cordovans can compete with the richness of colour and even texture of the Horween Cordovan leather used by Hanover in this shoe. This is a marvelous classic model in the old tradition of workmanship, a handsome and extremely durable shoe, and this particular shoe is as lovely an example as we are likely to see.

A vendre, une paire de classiques gentilshommes, le “Saddle Oxford”, en Shell Cordovan (cuir chevalle) de l’ancienne grande marque américaine, la cordonnerie Hanover. Ces chaussures ont été faites à la main dans leur atelier et peuvent concurancer avec n’importe quelles chaussures américaines ou anglaises. Sans exagérez, nous avons devant nous un exemple de l’art de cordonnier le plus cultivé, une chaussure pour enchanter avec ces détailles raffinés. Avec « Goodyear Welt », cousue à la main, et doublure de cuir extra souple. Elle représente le summum d’une veille tradition en perdition.
