Altman & Co. haben der New-York-Business-Community für Generationen gedient und haben gleichzeitig eine sehr traditionsverbundene und im besten Sinn “konservative” Serie angeboten.

The ideal evening, dress and business shoe.

    B. Altman and Company was one of the great landmark department stores of New York. From 1906 until the company closed on December 31, 1989, the chain, founded in 1865 by Benjamin Altman, had its final location in its block-long, Italian Renaissance style flagship store at 5th Avenue and 34th Street in Manhattan. Altman led the exodus of dry good emporia from farther downtown to the, then, still mostly residential Fifth Avenue of palatial mansions. New York’s other famous department stores – Lord & Taylor, Sloane & Co., Arnold Constable, Best & Co., and Bergdorf Goodman- soon followed suit. Altman died leaving no heirs and in 1987 the property was sold to foreign investors who’s catastrophic mismanagement brought the chain to bankruptcy within only 2 years.

    B. Alman & Co. had a reputation for conservatism and tradition. Their Charleston Gardens restaurant had a full size façade of a Tara-like Charleston home. Its now lost Christmas windows were a seasonal fixture in the hearts and minds of all New York.

Altman catered to an elite and affluent clientele, and sourced the best quality goods of all the world to purvey to them under its own trademark. The present shoes by Edward Green are such an example and compare favourably to anything on the contemporary market. This is a beautiful example of a timeless model; delicate lines, fine details, elegant proportions, in short, a masterpiece in an old tradition. Fully leather lined and built over a steel shank; notice the curvature of the instep. Let others be satisfied with a modern version of this dress shoe such as, for instance, the popular Allen Edmonds “Park Avenue”; this vintage Edward Green shoe is for the gentleman who desires the unimpeachably authentic and original.
