Alden’s advertises its Foot Balance System as being “scientifically designed and constructed to promote foot comfort”. I cannot confirm all that but there is no doubt that their shoes are extremely well made and, for any gentleman requiring a truly wide fitting shoe, I doubt that there is a better choice than these. Suffice it to say, Alden’s Foot Balance shoes are chosen by orthopedic specialists and sold under their labels to fit even the most difficult feet.

The model shown here, a “laid apron” split-toe Norwegian, sports the characteristic pre-1980 Foot Balance heel and the charming original ribbon laces.  The fine-Scotch-grain calfskin is a lovely, warm brown that will only become lovelier with successive polishing. Neither soles nor heels show appreciable wear, nor indeed the tops, thus this vintage classic may be called “near new”.

If you have been resorting to over-long, over-sized shoes to get the comfortable width you need for your wide foot, or if you take inserts in your shoes, this is the correct solution; a shoe that fits both in length and width.
