The venerable Knapp Shoe Manufacturing Company was founded in 1921 in Brockton, Massachusetts, at the time still one of the focuses of the American shoe industry. With the decline and consolidation of the American shoe industry, Knapp was acquired by and eventually closed by the Iron Age Corporation. I understand that the name is still in use and some association to the old firm exists but it is doubtful that any American-made products are involved today. Fortunately, here we have a fine example of Knapp’s superior hand-work of the mid 20th century, a classic Full Brogue Derby (Budapester) in finest Calfskin, built over a steel instep, with steel toe cap intended to protect even in industrial conditions; a work shoe with the advantages of a work boot, without the sacrifice of appearance. The perfect shoe for the manager visiting the factory floor….or any gentleman in potentially hazardous situations. This is Knapp’s finest product, Goodyear welted, of course, with additional storm welt (split reverse welt), water and oil-proof sole and non-slip rubber heel. A fine shoe to serve you handsomely in difficult conditions.

Knapp customers are an unusually loyal group, many of whom have worn only Knapp shoes and lament quite vocally the passing of the firm. See: http://kbfootwear.wordpress.com/knapp-customers-speak-out/
