The handwork in this shoe, up to and including the skived Goodyear welt (closed channel), is a testament to the skill of this artisan and a compelling example of pre-war shoemaking at its very finest. The elegant small waste and long line of this 7-Eyelet shoe will flatter any foot and the hand-nailed horse-shoe heel will carry the wearer long distances before requiring attention. This style of lasting and construction is seldom seen today even in custom-made shoes at astronomical prices. If this shoe is your size, the comfort and stability it will offer will transform your notions of fit and finish, but be warned, it may marginalize the majority of your shoe wardrobe. This is a marriage of art and craft not available elsewhere today. In terms of rarity this shoe is in the first category. Imagine the condition in Germany at the time of its making; an extreme luxury of this kind was afforded by only those most insulated by the effects of the war upon German society. Suffice it to say that, apart from one or two presently in the collection, I have never seen another shoe on this level of quality from Germany and from this period. Indeed any shoe of this fineness is a rarity today and to find this treasure in new condition after 70+ years is startling. The price is arbitrary; I would hardly know where to send you to find the equivalent shoe at any price. This masterpiece is one of approximately a dozen treasures of similar vintage, 1920s to 1940s, deaccessioned recently from the collection of a consummate German collector who, knowing the website, agreed that these rarities should be placed with my cultivated clientele above all others. This important shoe, like the rest of this choice collection, is perfectly wearable, as if made yesterday. It is glamourous, authentic, highly evocative of the period and, most likely, something never to be seen again in this condition. Suitable for the advanced collector. This shoe has my highest recommendation.
