Golfers the world round know that the finest traditional golf shoes are made and have been made throughout the 20th century by one shoemaker, The FootJoy Company. FootJoy began its operation as the Burt & Packard Shoe Company founded in Brockton Massachusetts in 1857. In 1927 the company took the name of its premier line of shoes, the FootJoy. Since then they have been the leading golf shoe on the PGA tour, the # 1 selling golf shoe in England and theundisputed leader in the manufacture of Golf Shoes in the world. The vintage and antique FootJoys represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship and luxury, and are highly prized by collectors and aficionado of fine shoes. Needless to say, a golf shoe or, as in this case, a shoe made to that standard, must stand up to far more abuse than a normal shoe. You can count on this shoe to survive in all conditions of use.
This and a few other Lizard Footjoys among my listings are perhaps the finest and the rarest golf and street shoes to be seen outside of a museum….and certainly the most beautiful. The skins are artfully arranged, with fine and coarse patterned pieces distributed for maximum effect, and all perfectly matched between shoes.
This particular shoe is a conversion from golf to street shoe, for someone wishing to duplicate his favourite golf shoe with a pair with soles suitable for everyday wear.
When this shoe was available from the factory before they closed, it cost $1500 plus tax, required 16-20 weeks for delivery, and was not available for export outside the United States. Moreover, special order shoes were non-returnable to Footjoy if, for instance, the fit was incorrect. [My sales are fully returnable for this or any other shoe.]

Auf Grund der grossen Nachfrage: die Umwandlung des Schuhes in einen Strassenschuh ist eine relativ einfache Angelegenheit; die Spikes sind schnell abnehmbar und das Anbringen einer dünnen Ledersohle von Ihrem Schuhmacher (Vibram oder Topy) komplettiert die Umwandlung. Gerne lasse ich die Umwandlung von meinem Experten-Schuhmacher ausführen.

In response to frequent inquiry, the conversion of such a shoe to a street shoe is a relatively simple matter; the spikes are quickly removable (they unscrew) and the fixture of a thin rubber sole (Vibram or Topy) by a local shoemaker completes the process. I will be pleased to have the conversion done by my expert shoemaker upon your request.

Diese antiken FootJoys stehen für absoluten Luxus und die Blütezeit der Schuhmacherkunst und werden bei Sammlern edler Schuhe und bei Afficionados aller Couleur hoch gehandelt.

Footjoy im März 2008 seine letzte Werkstatt in den USA, in Brockton/Massachusetts, geschlossen hat. Während die Firma weiterhin eine grosse Menge an Turnschuh-ähnlichen Golfschuhen in seinen Off-Shore-Niederlassungen produziert, ist mit der Schliessung in Brockton die letzte Bastion traditionell gefertigter Golfschuhe untergegangen. Damit versiegte auch die letzte Quelle für massangefertigte Golf- und Strassenschuhe aus Eidechsenleder und anderen exotischen Lederarten, unbestriten die einst beste Produktion weltweit.
