     There is enough written elsewhere in these pages about the Spectator shoe and its tremendously practical use in the 3-season, fair weather wardrobe. Important to note here is Grenson’s absolutely lovely and authentic representation of the Spectator in this present shoe. Not only is this as handsome a Spectator as I have seen but Grenson has outdone themselves (and many others) in its construction. Notice the channeled and skived (closed) Goodyear welt. This is the type of construction mostly reserved for bespoke shoes or the very best (and most expensive) ready-mades. Not to leave anything undone, this masterpiece has McAffee style dove-tailed combination heels.
This is from Grenson’s “Rose” series that supplanted their “Masterpiece” series. The materials and construction are the same and both series were intended to compete with Crockett’s “Hand Grade and even Edward Green’s ready-mades. In my opinion they give the competition a run for the money and this shoe, at half price, is certainly far better value-for-money than either of the others.
