As promised in my recent Newsletter, here, along with several other new listing, is an excellent shoe for almost any weather, on or off road, as practical for your summer outings in town or country as for Winter use. Every prudent gentleman’s wardrobe should have at least one such shoe to choose in heavy weather or, indeed, for any excursion to the country, whatever the weather. My goal is to present you shoes that fit this description but which have no resemblance to rough shoes or boots, rather, which can also be worn to the office or out in the evening without giving the impression -apologies to my lumberjack clients- that you are have just returned from felling trees in the Black Forest.

This particular pair appears to be a civilian variety of a shoe that is most often seen in military context. Fitted with the best high-profile all-weather, all terrain sole in the world and the most copied, the English-made Itshide “Commando” sole, this shoe will take you anywhere, over hill or dale and in every inclement weather. With the water resistance of a jungle shoe, the insulation of Winter boot and the traction of a mountain or desert boot, you can rely on this apparently civilized but terribly serious piece of gear.

VELDTSCHOEN CONSTRUCTION: In terms of construction, the present shoe is one of the most complex, robust and durable of all shoes. The Veldtschoen construction, while similar to the Norwegian construction in that both have the uppers turned out and sewn to the out-sole, has the addition of a full welt between the uppers and the out-sole, all of this intended to repel water. The Norwegian lacks a welt and is sewn directly to the outsole. Veldtschoen constructed shoes are usually further distinguished, as in this case, by a bellows tongue, another waterproofing measure.The construction of this shoe allows for the easy replacement of the sole but replacement is academic; you cannot wear out this sole. This shoe will serve you faithfully like few others and for decades to come. My old clients know what I mean when I say, “My highest personal recommendation on this shoe.”

Fine. Lightly worn with 90% of its long, long life ahead of it. Tops show no wear. The massive Itshide soles show the slightest wear.
