Johnston & Murphy’s version of this great classic shoe from their Crown Aristocraft prestige line uses a dramatic chisel-toe last that resembles those of earlier American and English bespoke shoemakers. This promises to be an unusually comfortable shoe. Very appropriate to business, daytime or even less formal evening dress, this impressive model never fails to draw compliments. Many time more Derbys (open lacing) were and are produced than Oxfords (closed lacing) and fewer remain in circulation in good condition now after 30-plus years. The existence of a vintage shoe in the condition of this one, essentially new, worn a few times only, approaches zero. Moreover J & M’s Aristocraft line was their uncontested best product, in all respects superior to most everything on the market today but it is not any of the above that distinguishes this particular pair as much as the quality of the leather. Johnston & Murphy has outdone itself in this shoe. Most likely a Horween hide but, even then, finer than almost any other Horween hide. The depth and richness of the colour and texture is nothing short of magnificent; oxblood colour but more brownish that most cordovan; in short…wonderful. And build quality to match! Full rubber non-slip heel shows first rubbing only.
