Es ist müßig das hohe Ansehen des Hauses John Lobb begründen zu wollen: sein guter Ruf besteht seit Generationen, gleichermaßen für das Familienunternehmen in London, wie für die Pariser Niederlassung, die zu Beginn des vorigen Jahrhunderts in Paris eröffnet und 1976 von Hermès übernommen wurde. Lobb’s Schuhe werden von manchen als Non-Plus-Ultra in Sachen Luxus angesehen – was vielleicht etwas übertrieben ist – ganz gewiss aber verdienen sie Ihre Reputation was Qualität, Comfort, Eleganz und dezenten, guten Geschmack betrifft (wenn Lobb sich, wie in diesem Fall, nicht zu Exkursionen in scheusslichem, modernem Design hinreissen lässt). Die Passform und Verarbeitung dieses Paares ist exzellent. .
Die Größe ist in englischer Norm (UK 11E) (US 11.5-12D) angegeben, was einer deutschen Größe 45.5-46D entspricht; für den mittel-breiten Fuss.

This is a limited edition, the one year model for the year 2001. Each year since 1996, on the eve of St. Crispin, patron saint of shoemakers, Lobb has issued what they consider a “design of exceptional refinement” to tantalize the hopelessly afflicted collectors. It must be said that these and others of Lobb’s “Prestige” line shoes hover somewhere between the bespoke and the ready-mades, much more of the finishing being done by hand than in the ready-mades and they are easily distinguished by the narrower waist and instep arched over the shank, both properties they share with their bespoke brethren. This year models, specially the earlier ones are scarce and very collectable. The shoe came out to great fanfare and ridiculous pricing -incredibly, for the first six months more than the bespoke prices- before Lobb returned the pricing to normal. Prices aside, the construction, fit and finish of this pair is top notch, superior to Lobb’s standard ready-mades and immediately recognizable as pure John Lobb. The shoe is in effect a “wholecut”, the entire upper made of one piece of leather with the exception of the applied facings to reinforce the lacing. The only seam is the closure in the back! About Lobb; little need be said about this good shoemaker, neither the family run shop in London nor its branch opened in Paris at the beginning of the last century and acquired by Hermès in 1976.
