This shoe is originally intended as a convertible “golf trainer”, one that can be worn in the club house without cleats or on the green with cleats. Unlike most golf shoes this has a rubber sole with protruding tear drop rubber lugs, thereby preventing the cleat fixtures from touching the ground, a very clever solution to the problem of coming and going to the golf course without changing shoes, and one that makes these shoes perfectly suitable for normal daily street wear without any further conversion.

Moreover, I find FootJoy’s gold frainers and convertibles like this one to be among the most supremely comfortable walking shoes, my personal shoe-of-choice for long city walks. These are also the last of their kind now that Footjoy’s American workrooms are no more. The all-weather sole is extremely durable and it is supremely comfortable on even the hardest surfaces, and like all Goodyear welted soles, easily exchanged if ever you are able to wear it out, a doubtful eventuality. The build quality of Footjoy American made shoes is on a level comparable to the very best ready-mades in the world and the leathers used by Footjoy are equaled by very few, in fact FootJoy’s rubber-soled Oxfords, golf or street, are -if I may repeat mtself- among the most comfortable shoes that money can buy. There is something about this brand, about their last (Leist) and their footbed that just works. Perhaps because their clients are going to spend the day walking on the green that they have developed a shoe that really cradles the foot. I would say the same thing about the vintage Florsheims but FootJoy is even superior to them as regards comfort. Be kind to your feet and knees with this most comfortable of all shoes.

Man kann guten Gewissens sagen, dass dieser wunderbare Vintage-Shoe von “Footjoy” – dem 1. Haus am Platz für Golfschuhe – ein einzigartiges Stück ist. Footjoy nimmt noch immer Bestellungen für seine umwerfenden Golf-und Strassenschuhe aus Echsenleder entgegen (ca 1500 pro Paar), doch dieses Modell wurde seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr angeboten. Die All-Weather-Gummi-Sohle ist extrem haltbar und ausgesprochen bequem, selbst auf härtesten Strassenbelägen und (wie alle rahmengenähten Sohlen) können sie -sollten sie tatsächlich abgetragen werden- leicht ausgetauscht werden. Die Qualität der Fertigung bei Footjoy Anfertigungen ist auf einer Ebene mit den weltweit besten Konfektions-Schuhen anzusiedeln und die Qualität der verwendeten Leder ist unvergleichlich.
