George Cleverley designed Suede Butterfly Loafer
George Cleverley apprenticed under the great Nikolaus Tuczek who’s stylistic influence can be seen clearly in the present pair of Loafers and in the work of many great shoemakers including Lobb who names more than one style after the master. From the late 70s to his death in 1991 the great George Cleverley worked as a design consultant for New & Lingwood. See their websitewww.newandlingwood.com
This pair was made by Crockett & Jones for Poulson Skone & Co. to be sold by Dunhill Tailors and is on a par with their “handgrade” production; notice the closed channel Goodyear welt, much as with besopke shoes. The original design is by the greatest master shoemaker of the late 20th century, George Cleverley, and in a direct line with his master, arguably the greatest master of modern English shoemaking, the London shoemaker, Nikolaus Tuczek.
The suede version of this iconic loafer is exceedingly rare. This one was a special order from the legendary Dunhill Tailors, 65 East 57th Street in Manhattan. Like the beloved old Herzfeld store, De Pinna, F. R. Tripler, and others high-end haberdashers and clothiers, Dunhill Tailors exists today only in wistful memory of mid-century New York gentlemen of taste and means.
Size Details:US 11D......UK 10E....Continental 44.5D, for the medium width foot.
Excellent, all original showing modest wear to soles or heels. Suede is notoriously difficult to photograph therefor I have included different camera settings to show more detail. The darker colour is the more accurate. Sold without trees.
