This is a vintage shoe from the 1980s, the “Custom Grade” series and not to be confused with some of the inferior modern indulgences of subsequent owners of this venerable shoemaker. This is the velour quality suede for which the Church’s has long been known. The slightly rounded plain toe shows as beautifully under trousers as under jeans. Fully leather lined, Goodyear welted and with combination heel. This is one of the models and the exact colour of suede frequently observed in London’s “City” under pin stripes, worsteds, blue and grey suitings, all of which are perfect complemented for the professional gentleman’s dress. No need mention all the tweeds, earth tones, khakis, odd jackets and trousers to which brown suede is the natural paring.

Althought the model has been in continuous production even to this day, and once sold for for £395, Euro 550 and US$ 620, the current prices under the new Prada management have gone up an astonishing 40%-50% for the same product, now topping £600, Euro 755, and USD 880.  This is the last moment in history to get your beloved Church’s shoes at something less than even the old prices.
