Churchs’ “Custom Grade” is the quality on which their reputation is based; one of the great English shoes…and the few Shell Cordovan they produced are now the coveted prizes of avid collectors. With double sole and split reverse welt (storm welt). Massive!

Church’s recent 173 last is reported to be supremely comfortable. Notice the pronounced flair at the ball of the boot, not quite the pre-war spade sole but certainly reminiscent of it. The overall effect is remarkably elegant for so ironclad a shoe. Church’s can still build a shoe to compete with and, frankly, surpass even the American cordovan producers (I shall not mention names) in detail and finish. This is a shoe for your lifetime…as it used to be!
