Ein “Wholecut”, wie der Name schon sagt, wird aus einem einzigen Stück Leder gearbeitet. Manchmal ist der “Wholecut” an der Spitze mit einem brogueing verziert, doch der Rest zeigt keinerlei Dekors und keinerlei Nähte und ist daher immer ein “Oxford”. Die Produktion eines “Wholecut” erfordert immer ein tadelloses Stück Leder und ein hohes Mass an Handwerkskunst. All diese Faktoren sorgen daher für den etwas höheren Preis.

Je weniger Nähte im Oberschuh zu finden sind, desto streckfähiger und dehnbarer ist auch das Leder und passt sich so idealst dem Fuss an. Wenn keinerlei Nähte vorhanden ist,(ausser, wie in diesem Schuh, um den Schnürbereich zu verstärken), der “Wholecut” der anpassungsfähigste Schuh überhaupt und wird sich im Laufe der Zeit verlässlich und komfortabelst Ihrem Fuss anschmiegen.
Stilistisch ist er umwerfend klar und elegant und als schwarzes Exemplar passend sowohl zum formalen Anzug als auch zum Business-Attire. Ein gut gearbeiteter “Wholecut” kann durchaus den Eindruck einer Massanfertigung machen und ist immer ein eindrucksvoller Partner Ihrer Alltagsgarderobe; Komplimente sind Ihnen sicher!

A “wholecut” shoe, as the name suggests, is made from a single piece of leather joined only in the back of the shoe. A “wholecut” may or may not be decorated with punching (brogueing) at the toe but is otherwise undecorated, seamless and therefore always an oxford. The making of a “wholecut” requires a larger and unblemished piece of leather and greater skill on the part of the shoemaker and this generally translates into a higher price.

The fewer the seems in the uppers of a shoe, the more the leather will be able to stretch and mould itself to the foot. With no seems at all, (except perhaps to reinforce the lacing, as in this shoe) the “wholecut” is the most adaptable of shoes and can be expected, in the fullness of time, to accommodate the foot nicely.

Stylistically it is the sleekest of shoes, very appropriate in black to full dress, formal dress, or business, and a well-made brown or, as in this case, a lovely warm Tan “wholecut” can give the impression of a bespoke shoe, and is always an impressive addition to the daytime wardrobe that never fails to draw compliments.

Church’s “Custom Grade” is the quality on which their reputation is based and one of the great English shoes, unlike certain other products market under their name such as the markedly inferior “Prima Class” and others made off-shore.
