Die alten Asienkenner unter uns werden sich vielleicht an Lee Kee erinnern, den Schuhmacher in der Lobby des Peninsula Hotels in Hongkong. Seine Schuhe repräsentierten die Spitze des Luxus, nicht zu reden von seine Preisen! Er warauf exotische Leder spezialisiert: Alligatoren-Leder, Krokodil, Eidechse, Schlange und die geschützte Meeres-Schildkroete, die Sie hier in der Website sehen können. Ich habe keinen Zweifel, dass damals in anderen Stadtvierteln von Hongkong wohl manch einer von Lee Kee’s Arbeitern das gegessen hat, was nicht in die Schuhe verarbeitet wurde……aber dieser Anblick wurde uns in der eleganten Lobby des Hotels wohl erspart. Das ist nun mehr als 20 Jahre her und Lee Kee terrorisiert nicht länger die nun, dankenswerterweise, geschützten wunderschönen Meerestiere. Daher werden wir mit diesem antiken Handwerksstück zufrieden sein müssen.
Dieser massangefertigte Schuh jenes berühmten Schumacher-Meisters zeigt alle Details feinster Handwerkskunst eines antiken, von Hand gearbeiteten, Schuhs. Die perfekt aufeinander abgestimmten Lederarten sind von allerbester Qualität und die Konstruktion des Schuhs hält den besten Exemplaren der Zunft stand; ein überaus erfolgreicher und sehr eleganter Effekt.

Alligatoren-Schuhe dieser Qualität können bis in die Tausende gehen -ich habe erst kürzlich ein Paar Damen-Alligatoren-Stiefeletten in einem Polo-Shop in New York gesehen: für sage und schreibe 4000 Dollar UND sie waren nicht einmal custom-made, kamen aus Italien, waren geklebt und nicht einmal von Hand rahmengenäht! Ich denke es ist fair diese absolut fabelhaften und seltensten, luxuriösen und ausnehmend eleganten Alligatoren-Schuhe als unbezahlbar zu beschreiben.

Superb. Neuwertig. Obwohl die Schuhe nahezu 30 Jahre alt sind, sind sie in ausgezeichnetem nahezu neuem Zustand. Sie zeigen keinerlei Gebrauchsspuren und am Allerwichtigsten: das Leder ist weich und biegsam und wie neu.

The old Asia hands among us will remember Lee Kee, the custom shoemaker in the lobby of the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong. Their shoes represented the height of luxury, not to mention prices, and they specialized in exotic reptile leathers, alligator, crocodile, lizard, snake and the forbidden giant sea turtle (also a reptile), listed here. I have no doubt that somewhere in the outer districts of the city Lee Kee’s workers were eating what did not go into the shoes, but we were spared that sight in his pristine showroom in the Peninsula. This was more than 20 years ago and Lee Kee no longer terrorizes the now protected amphibians of the world. We shall have to content ourselves with his vintage handcrafts.

In this particular masterpiece, beautifully matched small pattern alligator skins in darkest brown are mounted by black shell cordovan saddles. Most alligator shoes are split-toe or raised-apron models or both, enabling the use of smaller pieces of leather. Not so here. This is a particularly sleek and understated model; simple elegance and pure luxury in one shoe.

Custom made Alligator shoes of the quality of these shoes run in the thousands -I saw a pair of women’s alligator ankle boots at the Polo Shop in New York recently for $4000; if was ready made, from Italy and glued together, not Goodyear welted! I think it is fair to say that these fabulous, hand-sewn, hand-welted treasures, luxurious and supremely elegant, are one-of-a-kind and as, as such, priceless.

NEAR NEW. Although at least 30 years old, these shoes are in essentially new condition, showing no wear and, most important, the skins are supple and soft as new.
