    “Vintage” Cap-Toe Derby
    Circa 1950

Little more needs to be said of this excellent shoe than that it one of the dozen basics in the gentleman’s wardrobe, useful for daytime business or liesure wear. Please notice that this is a 360 degree hand-sewn (sole) with Split Reverse Welt (storm welt), an example from French Shriner’s top range collection of the immediately post-war period, still harkening to the pre-war heyday of this great traditional American house. This level of shoe was special ordered -colour, leather type and model- a “semi-custom” shoe, and extraodinarilly well made. It will be the center piece in your collection.

Quality: This shoe should not be compared to the current off-shore production marketed under the French Shriner name. These are vintage American-made, hand-welted shoes comparable to the great Florsheim’s, Nettleton’s or Hanover brogues of the period.

I am obliged to say that this pair of shoes is as finely made as any shoe in this website, better than most, and a tour de force in form and modeling, superior in build quality and detail to all most anything on the market today, a shoe that dismisses any doubt that the American shoe industry of the last century was surpassed by any other. This is a shoe that leaves all commercial considerations aside and strives and achieves near perfection. The hand-set horse-shoe nailed and steel cleated heel, the hand-raised border (at the toe-cap) and the 360 degree split-reverse-welt (storm welt) adorn the hand-sewn oak-tanned double sole. This is a shoe intended to serve for a lifetime and to serve beautifully! Apart from the best bespoke shoemakers, I would not know where to send you today to find the equal. My old clients know what I mean when I say that this shoe has my highest recommendation.

Notice two (of many) styles of lacing are shown.

    Size Details

US 9 D.....UK 8 E......42D Continental, for the medium width foot.

    Shoe Condition

Superb, lightly worn, all original with horse-shoe nailed heel with steel cleat.
