In 1947, Howard Head, an engineer, designed the first metal ski. In 1950, he founded the HEAD SKI Company, inc. In 1969, Head sold his company to the giant AMF and retired shortly thereafter. The HEAD logo sioon became synonymous with sport when one of the tennis players that HEAD sponsored, Arthur Ashe, won Wimbledon, defeating favoured Jimmy Connors in 1975. Since then the firm has been bought, sold and merged more often than is of interest to us here, and has evolved into a giant sports conglomerate, with an inventory that includes every imaginable category of sportswear, even, it would seem -while something of a departure for them-  catering to the needs of the sport’s spectator, as seen here, with this quite  individual and surprisingly well-made “Spectator”.
