An extraordinary lovely pair and superlatively well made pair of Half Brogues, absolutely in the English taste by one of the greatest shoemakers in the world, Edward Green …some say the greatest shoe maker, superior to Lobb. I make no judgment between these two titans but the slender lines of Edward Green’s 606 last are very seductive, and the workmanship is indisputably of the highest order. This line of shoes was made especially between the years 2000 and 2005 for the San Francisco bespoke tailor and shirtmaker, Tom James. Edward Green’s limited production proved inadequate as Tom James moved into mail order sales, and Greens prices were a mis-match for Tom James’ national market. Eventually, in 2004-2005 Tom James turned to lesser sources to supply their re-branded shoes. But the magnificent Edward Greens of that charmed 5 years in San Francisco will not be forgotten by the gentlemen who had the good fortune to acquire a few pairs of the great Edward Greens at half of today’s prices.
