  These handsome Evening-Slippers, often called an “opera pump” or “court shoe”, with its Gros-grain full strap is the correct shoe for black tie, smoking, your velvet or brocade lounging jacket, or any other fashion forward formal wear. Of course, it can be worn with a wide variety of other dress, formal or relaxed, all the way to jeans. (Very smart with black jeans!) Slippers of this type are meant to be light weight and some examples by other makers are not particularly well made. By contrast, this offering by Church’s appears to be rather more substantial than most and with it distinctive velvet decoration in place of the usual bow and its handsome red leather lining, this is an altogether original quotation of the dress shoe.

  Showing acceptable signs of wear; this beauty by the great old Church’s, before its acquisition by Prada in 1999, is perfectly serviceable, the quality we used to expect by this classic shoemaker.
